Duke Alumni Discount

What has changed about the alumni discount?

The annual alumni discount in Duke Stores has traditionally been a 20% discount redeemable annually but only in participating stores on campus. The alumni discount will still be an annual 20% discount, but after January 1, 2025, it will be available as a coupon in the Alumni app and redeemable either in-store or online.

What can I do if I don’t have the Alumni app?

The app is free and can be downloaded here: Apple users / Android users.  There will also be a QR code available in Duke Stores for alumni to scan and download the app.

Once I download the Alumni app and log-in, how long will it take for the coupon to be available?

It will be available immediately.

How do I find the coupon once I have opened the Alumni app?

There will be a button displayed with the app called ‘Stores Discount’. The coupon will be found via that button.

What does it mean if I access the Alumni app and no coupon is shown?

Once the coupon has been used in a calendar year, it will no longer display in the app.

What can I do if my coupon does not show up and I am certain that I did not use it during the calendar year?

If you are in a physical store, you can speak with a manager on duty, and they will be able to check the status of your coupon. If you are not in a physical store, call The University Store (919-684-2344), and a manager will help you. You can also email Duke Stores at dukeuniversitystores@duke.edu or initiate a chat session at shop.duke.edu.

When do the annual discount coupons reset?

January 1st of each year.

I didn’t use my alumni discount last year. Can I use it this year in addition to my current-year discount?

No, alumni discounts reset after each year and do not carry forward.

I used my alumni discount in the store; can I also use it in the online store?

The alumni discount is only redeemable once per year and can be used either in-store or online.

I don’t want to get the Alumni app. Can I still use my alumni discount?

I forgot to use my alumni discount on a recent purchase. Can I get a refund for the discount amount?

No, alumni discounts cannot be used retroactively.

I am graduating this year. How soon after graduation can I use my discount?

Alumni discount coupons are made available in the Alumni app immediately after graduation.

Where can I redeem my alumni discount?

The University Store, Duke Team Store, The Gothic Bookshop, The Divinity Bookshop, at game-day merchandise concession locations, the Medical Center Store, and online at shop.duke.edu.

Are there times when I can’t use my discount?

There are no time restrictions or black-out dates related to the redemption of the discount/coupon.

Are there items to which the alumni discount doesn’t apply?

Yes, the discount cannot be applied to computers, academic apparel, diploma frames, school supplies, gift cards, electronics, food products, and services.

If there is a sale, can I also use my alumni discount?

Yes, generally, the alumni discount can be combined with discounted prices. At times, exclusions may apply, but these exclusions will be communicated within the promotional information.

If I have to return items that I purchased using my alumni discount, will I be able to use my discount at a later date?

If all items on a transaction with an alumni discount are returned, your alumni discount will be available for use again.
